Site Redevelopment Log written 4 years ago

Around July 2006 I decided I wanted to re-craft the sennir site. Here is a log of my glacially slow progress. The redevelopment was eventually completed on the 19^th May 2007. Hurrah!

• Notes of broken things, to which I shall fix
  1. Related items is all screwy. Dates are occasionally broken, and occasionally duplicate articles appear.
  2. I want a quick search box at the top of every page.
  3. I want previous/next article buttons at the top of every article page.
  4. Consider moving article icon somewhere else, so that posting large images is unobstructed by it. Headings also look funny when they’re next to it, and thus it needs to move. but to where?

• Numbered comments act as the link to individual comments.

• New links for articles:

  • /%section%/%Unique_name%
  • /%section%/tagged/%tag%

  This means that articles now have better links which can be more descriptive. Old link (numeric) have been preserved.

• Sidebar content added, Displays a mixture of:

  • (possibly) Related articles, based on a title search;
  • Recent posts;
  • Hot posts.

• Image uploading and resizing code added

  • Arbitrary images can be uploaded, and resized/cropped
  • Cropped images can have nice URLS, e.g photo.jpg becomes photo_h450_w320.jpg for the resized version

• Custom CSS for articles.

  Arbitrary stylesheets can be applied to individual pages.

• Article page layout finished.

• Many updates to site progress:

  • Logo and colour scheme settled on: Dark blue banner-top with reflect. Dark blue logo with gradient.
  • Roughed out article layout.
  • Fine details of site CSS more sorted. Fixed with site sized in ems. should size nicely.
  • much work done on SQL for site in order to truly optimise site.

• Creating new logo for site. Dark Brown gradient. Adjusted Kerning on font because it’s more stylish.
