No to Prestwich School Closure! written 4 years ago
Campaigners against the closure of Prestwich Arts College, and Broad Oak high Schools have been celebrating today as it was announced that neither of the schools would be closed!
I’m honestly incredibly suprised by this decision by the council — this really was the last chance for both of the schools to get a reprieve. The support from the community has literally been astounding. It’s hard to tell if the masses of people campaigning against the closure were directly responsible for the reversal of the decision, but it would have been very hard for the council to ignore such a large group of people. Geoff Barlow (Head of prestwich) said this:
Don’t under-estimate the power of a community when it comes together around a sensitive issue like this.
And I think it’s very true.
