I got a call from the number 08700426655 this morning, I managed to answer it (a challenge in my comatose state), but they hung up straight away. Thinking I’d some soemthing stupid (like hang up instead of answer… ) I went to call back, but noticed it was an 0870 number.
Some googlage later shows that it’s some kind of callback scam. Calling back would have meant ringing some premium line number, usually whilst listening to a fake ringing noise.
Bastards.
Update
Some more googlage reveals it’s a company trying to sell you a mobile phone. Probably not an illegal practise, but should be.

saysI’ve had dodgy callers like that do the same to me. I always ask NOT to give me number out to third parties, so how do they get my number?

saysFrom what I read whilst searching, it looked like this company was only calling orange numbers. So it would seem like they get their info from the service providers themselves.
That or they’re actually working for the phone co’s.
Then there’s the companies that just call random numbers… hoping someone will answer.

saysI don’t personally know if they do or don’t, but you should have a read through the comments on this posting, as it’s got a bit more info in it.
An employee of Docklands Telecom posted a contact number (01708 383 222), so I guess you could give that a ring, and ask them politely to remove you from their calling list.
