School Closure written 4 years ago

Prestwich Arts College

They’re closing my old High School. Fresh from being given “college” status last year, it’s now planned to be closed in 5 years.

I don’t really know why I’m upset, but I just feel like it’s part of my history being taken away. Schools shouldn’t close — they’re almost written into the history of a town. Generations of kids have been taught there, in the same buildings, and in many cases by the same teachers.

I’ve written my letter to the council, and it appears the school is encouraging others to do similar. I doubt it’ll do much good — the council’s mind seems to have been made up. I don’t quite know how they can ignore the views of the angry mob that descended on Bury Town Hall.

It’s also brought out something in the teachers from the school. The maths teacher I never suspected as being very inspiring was given a standing ovation after giving a speech to a crowd of people.

S’all just a bit sad.
